<title>Torch to Pass Through Town Centre</title>

<description><![CDATA[ On Friday 20 July Guildford will see a piece of history as the 2012 Olympic Torch will be carried from the Cathedral to a major event in Stoke Park via Guildford s beautiful historic High Street.
The exact timings, which are yet to be confirmed, are likely to be late afternoon and will involve some short road closures.
The impact on Guildford is anticipated to be huge, with many thousands of people expected to line the route and welcome the torch to the Town, its last overnight stop outside of London.
The torch, which is scheduled to arrive towards the end of the event in Stoke Park, will then be met by a crowd of up to 25,000 being entertained by a range of local and international performers. ]]></description>

<title>Guildford Apply to Become Portas Pilot</title>

<description><![CDATA[ Guildford Town Centre Management Group are proud to announce that they have applied to become a Portas Pilot.
The Group, who represent the local borough council, many of the businesses of Guildford and the Guildford Town Centre Community have applied for an undisclosed amount to re-invigorate late night shopping in Guildford Town Centre.

The Portas Pilot scheme is a government funded project to explore the recommendationsof the Portas Pilot Review. Local town organisations such as Town Centre Management Groups were invited to apply for funding of up to  100,000 to implement the recommendations of the report. ]]></description>

<title>Guildford Independent store win prestigious award</title>

<description><![CDATA[ Caracoli Deli, situated within Steamer Trading, are celebrating this week after winning the food category of the Telegraphs  Best Small Shops in Britain 2012 .
The company, which have two other stores in Winchester and Alresford were nominated for the annual competition by readers votes. Co-owner James Nicols was quick to thank them saying that  being nominated for the  Best Small Shop Awards  by our customers was a huge compliment .
They were subsequently chosen as the winner by a panel of expert judges who said  All the strengths of a great deli lie in this year s winner; there are artisan breads, charcuterie and a range of antipasti that changes constantly with the seasons. Wines, well-made coffee, fabulous T2 teas from Australia, pasta and rice plus honey and the shop s own-made mues... ]]></description>

<title>Tourist Information Centre 'Highly Commended'</title>

<description><![CDATA[ The Tourist Information Centre in Guildford are celebrating a  Highly Commended  Award this month in the Beautiful South Awards.
The tourism team, renowned for their helpful demeanour and their willingness to go the extra mile, were out in force at the annual awards dinner on the 1st December 2011 and were excited by their award.

Since their move to the High Street the Tourist Information Centre has continued to grow from strength to strength offering a range of tourism services including online and offline ticket booking operations. With footfall to the Centre increasingly growing it is difficult not to predict an extremely positive future for the TIC, the only such centre remaining in Surrey.

<title>Power Cuts Hit Guildford</title>

<description><![CDATA[ The Guildford Town Centre Management Group is aware that there have been a series of power outages in the past few weeks. The main areas affected in the Town Centre area have been at the top end of North Street which experienced five blackouts in eight days.
Chairman of the Town Centre Management Group Kevin Lorimer said  m disappointed as I thought this had all be resolved last year! To find that we ve had power cuts again in this critical period when retailers make 50% of their profits is not good enough. Following the outages Mr Lorimer wrote to UK Power Networks on behalf of the Town Centre Management Group and was pleased with the reassurances he received. This included a confirmation that the North issue had now been resolved after four blackouts in eight days.

<title>Thousands Turn Out for Guildford Christmas Lights</title>

<description><![CDATA[ Guildford Town Centre launched Christmas in style to an audience of over 7,000 people last week with the annual Christmas Lights Event. The lights were turned on by Surrey s very own, Bonnie Langford, with the support of her friends from the Yvonne Arnaud s  Jack and the Beanstalk .
She was joined on the balcony by Guildford s mayor Cllr Terence Patrick, Father Christmas from Debenhams and Sian Tolfree an inspirational young lady from Shooting Star Chase.
The event was rounded off with a incredible firework display provided by White Lion Walk Shopping Centre.  
Town events started in the early afternoon with the arrival of Newfs in Action, a troupe of local Newfoundland dogs. were later joined by two Donkeys kindly supplied by Shooting Star Chase.
