It goes without saying that most of us would love to be on the ski slopes of the Swiss Alps or heading off to Canada with our skis packed in our luggage. For most people, though, that simply isn’t affordable and the desire to do some skiing outweighs the desire to do it in the perfect conditions. As a result, places such as the Guildford Ski Slope present us with the perfect venue to get some skiing under our belts in a manner that is slightly more budget-conscious. Whether you’re a first-time skier or a dab hand, you will no doubt love to take advantage of the facilities that are on offer just five minutes from the A3.
Skiing for Any Ability
One of the most important things to realise about the Guildford Ski Slope is that it is open to people of all abilities. Whether you’re a first-timer looking to get onto the slopes and see how well you can master what is on offer or you are an expert with the snowboard and are desperate to show off your skills, this is the right place for you. There is even the ability to get involved with some donutting, tubing or ringos and just sit in a rubber ring that boasts a hard plastic base and slide down the slope, so people with next to no skill or ability can still have plenty of fun. The minimum age for that is seven, so those of almost any age can enjoy it.
The good news when it comes to the skiing is that it is open to everyone, with the likes of the equipment and the use of the slope included in the price. You can get private lessons if you feel like you need to remind yourself how to ski or to learn the basics for the first time, or you can take part in a course. Courses consist of four lessons, taking you from the very beginnings of your skiing journey through to being able to take on the slopes on your own. There are also Open Practice sessions for former students, letting you head along to put your skills into good use whilst you head up to the top of the slope and back down again.
What You Need
Even someone who has never been skiing before will be more than aware that it is an expensive hobby. The good news is that you don’t necessarily need all of the gear in order to have some fun at the Ski Slope. All of the skiing and snowboarding equipment is supplied by the venue. Of course, that doesn’t mean that you can’t bring your own stuff if you have it already. More than a few people will be keen to make use of their own equipment, perhaps looking to wear it in before heading along to the mountains of France, Germany or Italy and skiing to their heart’s content. Either option is entirely fine with the Ski Slope.
Everyone who heads onto the Ski Slope has to wear long trousers, with those that have rips or tears in them not being allowed. You will also need to wear a long-sleeved top as well as gloves and socks. It is important to note that the Ski Slope is open in all weathers, so if it’s raining or snowing then you’d do well to take along some wet weather gear, for example. If you’re looking to take part in the donutting then you’ll need to wear all of the above as well as sensible footwear and a cycling helmet if you are under 16, which is not something that is provided by the Ski Slope.
Private Parties
You can absolutely make use of the Ski Slope if you’re just a private person looking to do some skiing, with specific hours set aside for precisely that. There will doubtless be some people out there who would like to host a party at the Ski Slope, however, with the good news being that you can do exactly that. The first and most important thing that you’ll need to decide is whether you would like it to be a party that involves skiing, snowboarding or donutting. Although no substantial food is supplied by the venue beyond hot and cold drinks and some chocolate, you can hire picnic areas and take along your own food.
Donutting parties are fun for younger participants, being open to those aged seven and over. Six-year-olds can come, provided they are part of a seven-year-old’s party. Skiing parties are another option, with private group lessons providing a structured approach to it all. Similarly, a structured lesson will be on offer for those of you looking to do a snowboarding party, which is open to those aged 12 and over. It isn’t that you need to attend the Ski Slope as part of a party, but if you’re there with a larger group then you’re likely to have a fun time engaging in all sorts of different activities under the guidance of the tutors.
