Life is stressful. It would be lovely to pretend that that isn’t the case, with a fair few people more than happy to bury their heads in the sand on that issue, but when their heads emerge, they realise that life is still stressful and now they’ve got sand everywhere. One of the things that you can do is look to alleviate your stress in some way, perhaps by using a stress ball or by joining a Fight Club. For those of you in or near Guildford, there is another option open to you in the form of a Rage Room located at Maxesive’s axe-throwing site.

What Is a Rage Room?

Maxesive Rage Room logoIf you have never heard of a Rage Room before, then you would absolutely be forgiven for wondering what on earth one is. It might sound like something rather stressful, but in reality, the exact opposite is true. A Rage Room is somewhere that is specifically designed to allow you to vent your frustrations, but to do so in an environment that is controlled and safe for the exact purpose of letting you release your frustrations. This means that you get to smash things up whilst wearing safety gear such as a helmet, goggles, and overalls.

Also known as a Smash Room, the first Rage Rooms were almost certainly opened in Japan in the early 2000s. Since then, the concept has moved around the world, with sites springing up in the likes of Serbia, Austria, and the United States of America. Although there is some debate over the efficacy of a Rage Room, with some psychologists believing that they could lead to more aggression coming out at a later date, others believe that the short-term relief that such rooms provide can offer a healthy way of ‘letting off some steam’.

In recent years, axe throwing has become a more and more popular way to spend time, giving people the chance to throw axes into targets in a safe and controlled environment. That is why Maxesive came into existence in order to serve the population of Guildford in that endeavour. Alongside that, though, came the Rage Room, which is specially designed to allow people to let go of any of their stresses by smashing stuff up to your heart’s content. Precisely what you get to destroy and how long you have to destroy it will depend on which package you opt for.

There are three room options for you to consider when you want to get involved in Maxesive’s Rage Room, with the following giving you some sense of what you’re likely to be able to experience:

It Isn’t Just for Adults

Given the fact that the entire idea of the Rage Room is to smash stuff up and to vent your anger, you would be forgiven for thinking that it is aimed specifically at adults. That couldn’t be further from the truth, however, with the company also offering the chance for those aged between 13 and 16 years old the chance to take part in the Rage Room during the school holidays and over weekends.

The experience is nearly identical, with the only major thing worth noting being that an adult must be in attendance for supervisory purposes. Given the extreme stress young people are under, especially as they adapt to going through puberty and having to cope with all of the changes and issues that they’re experiencing, it is perhaps no surprise that some of them might well want to head into a Rage Room and let go of their stress by kicking, punching, and smashing things. It is likely to be a healthier way to focus their frustrations.

It Is Entirely Safe

We all feel anger and frustration from time to time, but most of us don’t have a satisfactory way of releasing our pent-up frustrations. That is where Rage Rooms are designed to come in, promising the chance to find a cathartic way of letting off our stress. The most important thing about them is that they are safe, meaning that you can smash things up to your heart’s content in a way that you couldn’t do safely in the outside world. Not only that, but doing so away from the Rage Room would likely be an expensive experience.

Controlled Setting

The setting is controlled, with only certain things being put into the Rage Room for you to attack and destroy. Whether it be glass bottles, furniture, or crockery, there are any number of items that you will be able to turn to and smash to bits. Just because your rage is being funnelled in a certain direction doesn’t mean that your safety isn’t of paramount importance, however. The rooms themselves are fitted with CCTV cameras in order to allow the people working on-site for Maxesive to ensure that you are entirely safe throughout.

Safety Equipment

You are also provided with all of the equipment that you could need in order to be as safe as possible during your Rage Room experience. Before you get to go into the room, you will be given a safety briefing, which is why you should aim to get there about ten minutes or so before your booking time. Packages can be booked between 12 p.m. and 7 p.m. Monday to Saturday. Although there is food and drink available on-site, part of the safety protocol is that participants are not allowed to drink alcohol before they go into the room.
