Different parts of the world have different claims to fame. Liverpool is considered to be one of the main music hubs of the United Kingdom, for example, whilst Birmingham is known as the ‘Second City’. It is fair to say that Guildford has numerous different things going for it, but new on the list is the fact that it has been crowned the Chicken Nugget Capital of the United Kingdom. You would be forgiven for wondering exactly what that means, with everything from the production of chicken nuggets through to the eating of them being on the list, but what is it actually all about?
More Burger King Nuggets Ordered in Guildford Than Anywhere Else
The American fast food chain Burger King was founded as Insta-Burger King in Jacksonville, Florida, in 1953, with a franchise named simply Burger King coming into existence a year later in Miami. When the original company faltered five years later, it was bought by the Miami franchisees. In the company’s formative years, the menu was incredibly basic, offering burgers and French fries on the food side, with sodas and milkshakes to drink. The menu has obviously changed massively since then, not least of all thanks to the company’s decision to cater to regional tastes where possible.
When it first opened in the United Kingdom in London in 1976, the chain marketed itself as a classy establishment, including the playing of classical music, in order to be an alternative to McDonald’s. In 1985, the company launched the Chicken Tender, which was seen as a rival to the McNugget, being a long and flat shape made up of slices of chicken breast fillet. It was in the middle of the 2000s that the company made the move to the iconic crown shape, which is more recognisable as a nugget today. Whilst the product is popular, the company is obviously predominantly known for its burgers.
The one place where that might not be the case is Guildford. Although the town is best known for being the place that inspired Alice in Wonderland, as well as the cobbled High Street and the presence of the University of Surrey, a new claim to fame has now emerged. Burger King has released a wealth of different statistics about how the business works, which includes the information that Guildford’s Burger King franchises received more orders for nuggets than any other region of the United Kingdom during 2025, as per the BK Unwrapped report for the year.
BK Unwrapped
We have all grown used to seeing Spotify Unwrapped notifications when Christmas is just around the corner, during which people are informed by Spotify what it is that they have been listening to the most over the preceding year. Burger King obviously decided to get in on the act, releasing their own version of an ‘Unwrapped’ report that told us about numerous different trends in the fast food chain’s data. The likes of sporting triumphs and summer festivals have shaped what it is that people have been ordering when they went into their local branch of Burger King last year.
In terms of what Burger King was able to learn about Guildford, it was reasonably easy on account of the fact that the iconic venue of the chain on North Street closed its doors for the final time back in 2020. That left just Ladymead as the only location people in the town could head to in order to pick up a burger or, as we now know, some chicken nuggets. The branch on the town’s retail park has carried the torch admirably, especially when you consider the fact that it suffered from a fire back in 2015 that took around an hour for the fire crews to put out completely.
What People Eat Elsewhere

You might be inclined to ask just how many chicken nuggets the Ladymead branch of Burger King sold in 2025 to be named the chicken nugget capital of the UK, given the fact that it is the only one open in Guildford. Obviously, that is not information that Burger King decided to release, but the company has told us about what people are eating elsewhere.
