Rebeca Ortega & Ramon Ruiz Perform Traditional Spanish Flamenco Show in Guildford

Anyone who has been to Spain will be familiar with at least the concept of flamenco, which is prevalent all over the country. Some might have even been to the country and gone to watch one of the shows there, or seen a similar such thing performed by the staff at a resort somewhere.

It isn’t exactly outrageous to suggest that such a performance is unlikely to be of the highest quality, perhaps giving people a false sense of what a flamenco show is actually like. If you want to see the real thing, there aren’t many better people at performing it than Rebeca Ortega, accompanied by Ramon Ruiz, who are bringing their flamenco show to Guildford this year.

2026: Saturday 12 September from 7pm to 8.30pm at Holy Trinity Church (High Street, GU1 3RR)

If you’re going to spend your money on a flamenco show that has a major selling point of being performed by a specific person, you would be entirely within your rights to want to know more about the person in question. She is an award-winning artist who is renowned for her skills and abilities as a dancer and performer. Offering flamenco experiences in numerous different formats, she has performed her flamenco shows in the likes of Seville, Cádiz and Huelva. She has also brought her show over to the United Kingdom in the past, meaning that she has experience of performing to a British audience.

Not only has she performed flamenco, she also teaches it. Ortega offers live workshops to teach others how to perform the movements, as well as classes and even recorded courses that are available to all levels. That means that those of you that are impressed with her show can attend either online or in-person classes, regardless of whether you’re a beginner, someone who knows a little or the kind of person who can already perform at an advanced level and wants to take things further. She can teach you the rhythm, the clapping and the dance moves to make you look like a flamenco expert much like her.

Of course, before you sign up for any classes with Ortega, you are first going to want to see her live and see just how good she is at flamenco, which is where this show comes in. It promises an unforgettable evening of flamenco music, along with the dancing for which flamenco is so intrinsically linked. The elegant and internationally acclaimed dancer, who is based in Seville, is a prize-winning performer, joined by both a guitarist and a singer to tell you the story of flamenco. Ramon Ruiz takes up guitar duties, coming from Grenada before training in Seville, whilst Carlos Lobo is the singer in question to round things off.

Lobo is a puro flamenco singer of much renown, originally from Jerez de la Frontera, the home of sherry, but is also now based in Seville. That means that the trio work together on a regular basis, perfecting their performance over years of working side by side. As a result, they present audiences with a chance to immerse themselves in the rich cultural heritage of the part of Spain known as Andalusia, performing both traditional flamenco and the dance with a more modern twist. It is liable to make you want to drink some sangria, eat a plate of tapas and do countless other stereotypical things once you head out into the Guildford night.

One of the first things that you’ll want to be aware of is that this is a seated event, which operates on a first come, first served basis. That means that if you’re concerned about the likes of sightlines, which can be a problem in the Holy Trinity Church depending on where you’re seated, then you’ll want to get along early in order to secure a decent spot. You might also want to know that you can meet the artists after the performances, which will present you with an opportunity to pass on your thanks and ask them any questions that you’ve got. Both prints and CDs will be on sale too, should you wish to take a piece of Andalusia home with you.

The doors of the church will open for the performance at 6.30pm, with a scheduled start time of 7pm for a performance that will last for about an hour and a half. In terms of the meet and greet after the show’s conclusion, it will last for around 15 minutes, drawing to a close at 8.45pm. That being said, if there are plenty of people there wanting to buy something then it is unlikely that any of the performers will be leaving before they’ve captured the sale. If you buy your tickets but then want to get a refund for some reason, you will be able to do so up to 20 days before the event is due to be performed, so bear that in mind.
