Surrey Family Fun Day in Aid of Air Ambulance Takes Place This Sunday

When the summer months come around, it is not uncommon for parents and guardians to look for something fun to do with the young people in their lives. Countless organisations look to take advantage of this by putting on fund-raising events, as well as other things that can bring in some support for what they offer.

The Air Ambulance is an organisation that is regularly on the lookout for further funding as well as an opportunity to spread the message about what, exactly, it does. As a result, they are hosting a Family Fun Day in Guildford on the 31st of August 2025 for precisely that reason.

2025: Sunday 31st August from 11am to 4pm at Loseley Park (GU3 1HS)

What Is the Air Ambulance?

Air Ambulance Surrey logoIn short, the Air Ambulance is exactly what it sounds like. The organisation offers emergency medical services to people in the United Kingdom, which can include transporting patients between specialist locations or even medical repatriation. The services aren’t provided by one organisation in the same way that the National Health Service is responsible for healthcare around the UK. Instead, there are numerous different Air Ambulance organisations around the country that are operated by charities. Although they will work together if necessary, they aren’t controlled as one unit.

The first Air Ambulance service in the United Kingdom actually began in Scotland in the November of 1933. It took another 54 years for a charity organisation to operate an Air Ambulance, which took place in Cornwall. In the years that followed, more and more Air Ambulance charities launched to the point that there are 21 operating around the UK in 2025. The majority of them are based in England and Wales, with some also located in Northern Ireland. Scotland, meanwhile, has one Air Ambulance organisation that has two helicopters, as well as others supported by the NHS.

If you’re looking for something to do with the young people in your life, the Air Ambulance Family Fun Day that is being hosted at Loseley Park in Guildford on Sunday the 31st of August 2025 might be right up your alley. The whole day gets started at 11am, with tickets costing £2.50 per person. It is a day that promises to be full of adrenaline-fuelled action, thanks to the ability to see the helicopters themselves up close. There will also be demonstrations of how the Air Ambulance crew goes about the process of trying to save lives, in addition to the ability to meet the crews.

If you have an adventurous young person that likes to push their own boundaries, you might want to see if the Mini Medic Mission is something that they might enjoy. It isn’t all about the Air Ambulances, even if they are the star of the show. There is also the ability to take in some live music, as well as gobble down some tasty street food or have a go on some funfair rides. The entire day is about giving families the chance to have some fun together, all whilst learning more about what it is that the Air Ambulance is responsible for doing in the wider Surrey area.

Educational as Well as Fun

Whilst fun is obviously the keyword in a Family Fun Day, it is also an opportunity for those responsible for the Air Ambulance charity to educate people about what it is that they do with their time. Part of that will involve meeting the lifesaving crew up close, as well as being able to step inside the Rapid Response Vehicle that they use. Provided there isn’t an emergency that calls the Air Ambulance into action, you can also take a closer look at the helicopter. Elsewhere, you will be able to see demonstrations of CPR and the use of a defibrillator, which could help you save a life yourself at some point.

The local emergency services will showcase what it is that they do, letting you meet the everyday heroes that work hard to keep you and your loved ones safe. The Mini Medic Mission, meanwhile, gives young lifesavers the chance to tackle obstacles, learn how to stop someone from bleeding and also be shown how to carry out CPR. Those that want to take part will get a mission letter and a sponsorship form, as it is best to be signed up to in advance, costing £5. The Mission is suitable for those aged between two and 12, with participants receiving a sticker upon completion.

More About the Event

This is a Family Fun Day, so well-behaved dogs on a lead are more than welcome. The site where the day is taking place is flat and on grass, which means that it is considered to be accessible for wheelchairs, pushchairs and mobility scooters. You need to bear in mind that the ground may be uneven in places, of course, and if it rains the grass may be difficult to navigate. Free parking is available, which is handy as you can take along a picnic if you’d rather not spend money buying refreshments on-site. You will be able to pay for things with both cash and cards.

The event will take place no matter what the weather is doing, but it is always worth dressing appropriately. If you want to know more about the various timings of what will be happening during the day, an email will be sent in advance and there will also be a programme available at the entrance. Although you can sign up for the Mini Medic Mission in advance, getting a letter from the Air Ambulance mascot Skye, you can also sign up on the day. Tickets should be bought in advance as they may sell out, so the number of tickets available on the day is likely to be limited.
