There is a solid argument to be made that, in a crowded field, George Michael had one of the best voices of any British singer ever. One need only watch the video of the former Wham! frontman singing Somebody to Love at the warm-up for a Freddie Mercury tribute concert at Wembley Stadium, with David Bowie and Seal watching on awestruck, to have that confirmed. Many of us didn’t get to see the great man live, so the next best thing might be a tribute act performing his songs in front of an adoring audience, which the residents of Guildford have a chance to do.
What Is It?
Wow Events are putting on The Tribute to George Michael, which promises an unforgettable night of classics that were made famous by one of the most iconic musicians ever. The evening spans from when Michael was in Wham!, right the way through to his solo career and everything in between. You can expect to hear the likes of Wake Me Up, Too Funky and Faith, as well as other hits such as Freedom, Careless Whisper and I Knew You Were Waiting, as well as many more.
Along the way, the man performing the tribute to George will change and alter his look to match the era of the man himself. Whilst it obviously won’t be the same as going to a live concert of George Michael, given the fact that he sadly passed away in 2016 when he was 53 years old, it is a great chance to imagine what it must have been like to be at one of his gigs. The singer is also backed by a choir and an excellent band, bringing the music of George Michael to life in the best way possible. It is a night that fans of Wham! and George’s solo career absolutely can’t miss.
Where & When

As a company, Wow Events put on any number of tribute nights, with artists from Michael Jackson to Elton John, Coldplay to Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons being produced. If it is The Tribute to George Michael in Guildford that you want to go and see, however, you will need to ensure that you’re available on the sixth of November from 7.30pm. If so, you can head along to Guildford Cathedral, which is located on Stag Hill in the town. The ticket prices will depend on where it is in the Cathedral you wish to be sat, as the seats closer to the front cost more.
Guildford Cathedral often hosts such events, both indoors and outdoors depending on the time of year and the event itself. It is accessible to wheelchairs, thanks to the ramp that is in place at the West entrance. There is also a lift at the North Door, should you prefer to enter that way. The Cathedral also offers wheelchairs of its own, for those of you that are generally ambulatory but who require the use of something like a wheelchair once you’re inside a venue. There are some steps in certain places, so if you have accessibility needs then it is best to contact the Cathedral ahead of arrival.
